Your Revel point of sale (POS) knows what every unit sold today. A POS is the register and software that rings up orders, takes payments, and tracks clock-ins.
At many franchises, the schedule and payroll can’t see any of that data. Managers guess at staffing and find labor overruns after the week is over.
So which HR software works best for franchises using Revel POS? Here’s what 7shifts connects, how setup works, and what it costs.
Why 7shifts is the best HR software for Revel franchises
7shifts is the best HR software for franchises using Revel POS because it’s built only for restaurants and connects directly to Revel. The 7shifts Revel POS integration syncs Net sales, actual labor, tips, employee profiles, and hourly wages into one restaurant HR platform with scheduling, time clocking, compliance, and payroll.
Net sales are what you rang up after discounts and refunds. That number shows how busy each unit really was.
7shifts was founded in 2014 by Jordan Boesch. The company started in a Quiznos franchise owned by his father. Today, 55,000 restaurants use 7shifts.
- Built for restaurants: Every workflow fits shift-based restaurant teams, including hourly roles and tip pools.
- Direct Revel connection: Sales, labor, tips, profiles, and hourly wages come over from Revel as you turn on each setting.
- One place for your team: Scheduling, time clocking, compliance, and payroll all work from the same data.
- Repeatable setup: Each Revel location connects the same way, so your first unit becomes the template.
The POS is where the real work gets recorded. “Point of sale is the thing that’s running the restaurant, especially on the floor. It’s the source of truth for what sales happen and when, when someone is clocking in and out, and the tips made during that time,” says Julianne Lee, senior product manager at 7shifts.

The cost of disconnected tools across franchise units
Data silos happen when information gets stuck in separate tools that don’t share it. For franchisees, the POS, schedule, and payroll each hold one piece.
When those tools don’t talk, managers re-key every punch by hand. A punch is the time record created when an employee clocks in or out. Mistakes slip in, and overruns surface after the pay period closes.
Lee says the delay is the real cost. “Without a connected point of sale, you won’t find your labor cost until much later. It could take multiple weeks before you realize, ‘Oh my gosh, I added too many people during a week when it was really slow on sales.’”
Growth multiplies the problem. According to the IFA 2026 franchise outlook, “The number of franchise establishments will grow from 832,521 to 845,000 units – an increase of 1.5%.” Every new unit adds another set of schedules, punches, and payroll files to reconcile.
Costs raise the stakes. The NRA 2026 industry outlook reports, “More than 9 in 10 operators cite food, labor, insurance, energy, and swipe fees as significant challenges.” You can adjust restaurant labor cost weekly, so seeing it late hurts.
How the 7shifts and Revel POS integration works
Revel sends sales, labor, tips, and employee data to 7shifts. Each setting below controls one piece.
“7shifts is in the middle of this relationship. The point of sale sends the information over to 7shifts, and we take that sales data and the labor information to look at who is working on what days and help optimize overall labor against the sales that are actually happening,” says Lee.
| Data from Revel | What 7shifts does with it | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Net sales | Shows real-time labor cost and builds AI-powered forecasts | On by default |
| Actual labor punches | Compares Sales vs. Labor on the Dashboard | Actual Labor toggle |
| Credit card and cash tips | Feeds tip pools and payroll | Tip calculation settings |
| Employee profiles | Creates new profiles when staff are added in Revel | Employee Sync |
| Hourly wages | Keeps labor cost and payroll accurate | Wage Sync |
Real-time sales and AI-powered forecasts
Real-time Net sales sync is on by default after activation. 7shifts also imports up to 90 days of historical sales from Revel, which can take a few hours to appear.
Both 7shifts and Revel need the same time zone and the same workday hours, 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Expect about one to two weeks of data collection before your first sales projections show up.
With 7shifts POS integrations, you can project your sales with 95% accuracy when you use a POS integration. Those forecasts drive multi-location sales forecasting, so each unit’s schedule matches its own traffic.
That’s the link between sales and staffing. “Point of sale really marries all that sales information and helps restaurants understand their future forecast and the number of people that need to work on the floor,” says Lee.
Actual labor next to actual sales
To turn it on, go to Integrations > My Integrations > Revel POS > Settings. Under the Labor tab, toggle Actual Labor on.
Your actual labor then shows on the Dashboard, so you can compare Sales vs. Labor. One rule matters here: employees must be scheduled in 7shifts so their roles attach to the right punches.
Build every shift in 7shifts first. “Our schedule really shapes what labor costs will be, based on the information being pulled from our different partners,” says Lee.
With plan and actuals side by side, you can fix overstaffing mid-week. Restaurants that use 7shifts reduce labor costs up to 3%.
Schedule enforcement at the Revel clock-in
Schedule enforcement is a setting that ties clock-ins to the schedule. With Revel, it stops employees from clocking in on the POS unless they have a published shift in 7shifts.
A manager override is required for any unscheduled clock-in. To turn it on, toggle Enforce Schedule on in 7shifts settings. Then publish or republish your schedule to push the shift data to Revel.
The same rule applies at every unit, no matter who’s managing. For units that clock in through 7shifts, see the 7punches time clock app.
Handle tips and payroll from the same data
Tips are tied to punches in 7shifts, so they belong with your labor data. As labor syncs from Revel, 7shifts pulls the tip values connected to each punch.
That keeps tip math in one spot. “They can manage all of their tips in one single system,” says Lee.
Credit card and cash tips from Revel
Revel sends credit card tips and cash tips alongside labor data. Labor data shows who worked and when, and tip data shows what was earned. Tip calculations decide how those earnings are redistributed and paid.
Tip pooling means combining tips and sharing them by a set formula. The automated tip pooling tools in 7shifts run that formula on your Revel data. Set up your tip settings after the first sync so 7shifts recognizes every tip source.
Tip rules come with legal limits. Under the DOL tipped employee rules, the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) bars employers from keeping any part of employees’ tips, and that includes managers and supervisors. Many states add their own tip rules, so check yours too.
Getting tips and hours into payroll
Tip calculation settings decide which tips are included and how they’re calculated. They also control how tips appear in reports and payroll exports, including 7shifts Payroll.
Wage Sync keeps hourly rates in 7shifts matched to Revel. It works for hourly roles only, and you need to turn on Wage-Based Roles first. Finish mapping before you enable it, too.
Once punches, tips, and wages are synced and mapped, teams using the restaurant payroll software from 7shifts can run pay from that same data.
Lee calls this setup a trifecta. “With payroll integrations, we can create a beautiful trifecta of a fully operational restaurant on a single tech stack: our point of sale, 7shifts managing HR information, and then pushing it over to payroll, whether that’s our own 7shifts Payroll or other partners.”
Keep every unit’s team data clean
Mapping is the foundation of the whole integration. It has to happen before you turn on Actual Labor, Employee Sync, or Wage Sync.
Skipping it can lead to data mismatches and duplicate profiles.
Employee and role mapping
Mapping links each employee and role in Revel to the matching one in 7shifts. It makes sure labor data lands on the right profile.
Go to Integrations > Mapping > Roles or Employees. Items with identical spelling appear under Matched. For anything Unmatched, choose Match to link an existing profile, Ignore for salaried staff, or Add to create a new one.
Name mismatches cause trouble. “The most common thing operators get wrong is employee mapping. On the point of sale there could be an employee set up with one name, and in 7shifts they’ve also put in a middle name, so there are mishaps in making sure the right person is mapped,” says Lee.
Salaried managers usually aren’t set up in Revel, but they still belong in 7shifts. “We always say 7shifts should be your source of truth for all your employee information, whether it’s salaried or from the point of sale, and the employees from your point of sale need to be correctly mapped,” Lee adds.
Employee Sync for faster onboarding
Hiring never stops in restaurants. In its BLS quits rate data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports an annual average quits rate of 4.2 for accommodation and food services in 2025, compared with 2.0 for all industries.
With Employee Sync, 7shifts can create new employee profiles when you add someone in Revel. Synced fields include:
- First name
- Last name
- Phone number
- Email (only when the profile is created)
- Inactive status
- Location, department, and role assignments
- Punch ID
Before you turn it on, enable Actual Labor and map your existing employees and roles. New unit managers then spend less time on data entry.
The Warnings tab
Before you run payroll, check the Warnings tab in Time Clocking. It flags issues like missing punches or unmapped roles.
Make that check part of every payroll run. “It’s a common occurrence where operators don’t actually know they’ve made that mistake, and it often comes to support to fix,” says Lee.
Standardize compliance and labor across your franchise
Franchisor rules for breaks, minors’ hours, and overtime need the same setup at every unit. One missed break can put your franchise compliance score at risk.
The labor compliance tools in 7shifts apply those rules everywhere:
- Break tracking: Breaks follow your franchise rules at every location.
- Overtime alerts: Managers get a warning before someone goes into overtime.
- State-based labor law tools: Scheduling rules match the state each unit operates in.
- Standardized role templates: Copy the same roles and labor model within each unit.
Local laws add another layer. Under the Oregon predictive scheduling rules, “Your employer must give you a work schedule in writing at least 14 calendar days in advance for the first day on the schedule.” That rule applies to large employers (500+ employees worldwide), so confirm the rules for each of your locations with counsel.
Multi-unit owners need to see every location at once. “7shifts has the ability for an enterprise or corporation to see all of their labor costs in one single view,” says Lee.
With multi-location restaurant management, you can compare labor across units and spot the store that’s drifting. “Franchise owners don’t want to worry too much once everything is set up. They can go into 7shifts and see the labor forecast and the sales forecast to identify the best schedule to create,” Lee says.
Our franchise group customers see the payoff. “Our labor is probably the best it’s ever been in these months. And that has a lot to do with data we would’ve gotten from [7shifts], and being able to just adjust and continue to get better on it,” says Kyle Ferbey, COO of Synergy Franchising.
How to set up 7shifts with Revel POS
You’ll need Admin permissions in 7shifts. Connect one location first, then repeat for each unit.
- Email partnerconnectsetup@revelsystems.com with your Revel URL and Revel Establishment Number.
- Wait for Revel to send your API Key, API Secret, and API Host to 7shifts. The 7shifts team then connects your account and lets you know.
- Go to Integrations > My Integrations > Revel in 7shifts and select + Connect a location.
- Map your roles and employees under Integrations > Mapping.
- Set the same time zone and 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. workday in both 7shifts and Revel.
- Turn on Actual Labor, then set up tip settings after the first sync.
- Enable Employee Sync, then turn on Wage-Based Roles before Wage Sync.
- Toggle Enforce Schedule on and republish your schedule.
- Review the Warnings tab before your first payroll run.
Budget for one cost on the Revel side. Revel charges between $15 and $25 per month per location to access integrations through its API. Some integration features may also need an upgrade to your 7shifts plan.
Repeat the checklist for each location, and your first store becomes the template. When you add a new location, Revel will prompt you to update your subscription. “We have a flexibility of different integrations that allow mid-market companies to not worry about what the onboarding and setup process will look like,” says Lee.

Run every Revel unit from one restaurant HR platform
Revel already tracks what each unit sells. 7shifts puts that data to work in your schedules, tips, compliance, and payroll, so every unit runs the same way.
Lee sums it up. “A restaurant shouldn’t have to worry about what’s happening behind the scenes. They should only focus on what’s going to happen next week or tomorrow.”
