Why 7shifts is the best HR software for juice and smoothie franchises on TouchBistro
7shifts is the best HR software for juice and smoothie franchises using TouchBistro because it connects directly to your point of sale (POS). A POS is the setup that rings up orders, tracks sales, and clocks staff in and out.
TouchBistro Net sales, meaning sales after discounts and refunds, feed 7shifts forecasts. With Schedule Enforcement turned on, clock-ins are checked against your 7shifts schedule. Tips flow into tip pools and payroll.
Julianne Lee, senior product manager at 7shifts, explains why: “Point of sale is the thing that’s running the restaurant, especially on the floor. It’s the source of truth for what sales happen and when, when someone is clocking in and out, and the tips made during that time.”
7shifts is a restaurant HR platform built only for restaurants. The 7shifts TouchBistro integration puts your POS data to work across scheduling, time clocks, tips, and payroll.
- Built for restaurant shifts: 7shifts is built only for restaurant teams and the way their shifts really work.
- Live TouchBistro data: Sales, punches, and tips come from the POS, so managers don’t re-key them.
- Franchise-wide consistency: Every unit can run on the same roles, clock-in rules, and tip pool rules.
Why juice and smoothie franchises outgrow a POS-only setup
If you run a juice bar, you know the pattern: tight margins and quick, uneven waves of demand. Your POS records every sale, but it doesn’t build schedules or run tip pools.
Rushes, small crews, and teen workers
Juice bar employee scheduling follows the clock and the weather. Demand spikes during the morning rush, after workouts, at lunch, and on hot summer days. Then it drops off fast.
With a crew of two to four people, every extra hour shows up in your labor cost. Side work like cleaning blenders, refilling ice, and prepping produce still has to happen on every shift.
7shifts says operators spend 80% less time scheduling with its scheduling built for juice bars. That’s time back for the counter and the crew.
Many smoothie shop crews include teens, so their hours are capped during the school year. Under the DOL restaurant youth rules, 14- and 15-year-olds may work “no more than 3 hours on a school day, including Fridays.” They’re also limited to “no more than 18 hours during a week when school is in session.”
These are federal rules. Your state’s rules may be stricter, so check both.
What disconnected tools cost you
When sales, schedules, tips, and payroll live in separate tools, managers re-key data by hand. Labor drifts on a slow afternoon, and nobody notices until the week is over.
That drift is expensive. The NRA labor cost data reports, “Among all limited-service respondents to the survey, salaries and wages (including benefits) represented a median of 31.7% of sales in 2024.” That benchmark covers all limited-service restaurants.
As Lee puts it: “Without a connected point of sale, you won’t find your labor cost until much later. It could take multiple weeks before you realize, ‘Oh my gosh, I added too many people during a week when it was really slow on sales.’”
Growth makes it harder. The IFA 2026 economic outlook says, “The number of franchise establishments will grow from 832,521 to 845,000 units – an increase of 1.5%.”
That projection covers every franchise sector. Each new unit adds more tools to keep in sync, and restaurant HR software tied to the POS keeps that work in check.
How the 7shifts and TouchBistro integration works
The integration links your TouchBistro Cloud account to 7shifts. Mapping, which links each TouchBistro staff member to the right person in 7shifts, is the foundation for everything else.
Here’s what syncs from TouchBistro, and what doesn’t.
| Data | Syncs from TouchBistro? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Net sales | Yes | On by default, with up to 90 days of history |
| Punches and labor costs | Yes | Turn on Actual Labor first |
| Tips | Yes | CC tips, auto-gratuity, cash tips, and declared tips |
| Employee names | Yes | First and last name only, through Employee Sync |
| Hourly wages | Yes | Through Wage Sync, for hourly roles only |
| Paid and unpaid breaks | No | Not currently synced |
| Email addresses | No | Add them by hand in 7shifts |
| Role assignments | No | Add them by hand in 7shifts |
| Salaried wages | No | Wage Sync doesn’t support salaried roles |
Connect each location from TouchBistro Cloud
Each unit connects on its own, so you can roll out store by store. In TouchBistro Cloud, go to App Marketplace, find 7shifts, and click Set Up.
Log in as a 7shifts Admin and click Grant Access. Then choose the 7shifts Location ID, even if you only have one store.
Repeat the connection for each extra unit, starting from the Location ID step. Skip a step, and you’ll see the error “unable to validate credentials.”
Historical sales can take several hours to show up. Lee describes what happens next: “Once you set up, we pull in the name of your restaurant and which employees work there.”
Map employees and match Punch IDs
Mapping links each TouchBistro staff member and Staff Type to the matching person and Role in 7shifts. When it’s right, labor data lands on the right profile, and payroll runs with fewer issues.
Start with Punch IDs. A Punch ID is the number an employee uses to clock in, and in 7shifts it must match their TouchBistro passcode.
Next, check Staff Types. The 7shifts Integration Name on each Staff Type must match the 7shifts Role name exactly. A “Blender” and a “Lead Blender” Staff Type can both point to one catch-all Blender Role.
Staff appear on the mapping page only after they clock in and out on TouchBistro once. 7shifts pairs most people by name and email. You can match, ignore, or add anyone left over.
Lee calls out the biggest trap. “The most common thing operators get wrong is employee mapping. On the point of sale there could be an employee set up with one name, and in 7shifts they’ve also put in a middle name, so there are mishaps in making sure the right person is mapped.”
Forecast rushes with TouchBistro sales data
Net sales sync by default, and up to 90 days of history imports when you turn on the integration. Both tools need the same time zone and workday hours, set at 5 a.m. to 5 a.m. First projections appear after about one to two weeks of data.
That lets a juice bar staff up for the 7 a.m. rush. It also shows when to cut back in the slow mid-afternoon. 7shifts says its sales and labor forecasts, built on historical POS data, reach 95% accuracy.
Lee explains the payoff. “Point of sale really marries all that sales information and helps restaurants understand their future forecast and the number of people that need to work on the floor.”
Turn on Actual Labor to pull punches and labor costs into 7shifts. Then compare sales and labor on the Dashboard, the core job of restaurant scheduling software.

Stop early and unscheduled clock-ins with schedule enforcement
Schedule enforcement is a setting that lets staff clock in on TouchBistro only when they have a 7shifts shift. It stops early punches and surprise shifts before they hit your labor cost.
You’ll find three toggles in TouchBistro Cloud:
- Enforce Schedule: Staff must be scheduled in 7shifts to clock in.
- Enforce Role: The Role someone clocks in under must match their scheduled Role.
- Allow Shift Override: A manager or admin can approve an unscheduled punch with their POS passcode, with the matching 7shifts permission.
A grace period is the window before a shift when staff can still clock in. With a 9:00 a.m. shift and a 10-minute grace period, an employee can clock in as early as 8:50 a.m.
Turn it on in both 7shifts and TouchBistro Cloud, then republish your schedule. Anyone who isn’t scheduled needs a manager override at the terminal.
This helps keep teen workers from picking up unplanned hours. It also puts every unit on the same clock-in rules, and 7shifts labor compliance tools add more checks, though no software guarantees compliance.
Turn TouchBistro tips into fair tip pools and accurate payroll
Counter-service juice bars collect tips on cards and in the tip jar. Splitting them fairly by hand eats up manager time.
Lee sums up the goal: “They can manage all of their tips in one single system.”
Tip sources that sync from TouchBistro
Tip pooling means combining a shift’s tips and splitting them among the team by a set rule. 7shifts collects credit card (CC) tips, auto-gratuity, cash tips, and declared tips from TouchBistro.
With automated tip pooling rules, you can split pools by hours worked, points, or percentages. 7shifts operators save hours per month using Tip Pooling.
Set up your tip settings after the first sync. That way, 7shifts recognizes every tip source your POS sends.
Federal law draws a firm line on who keeps tips. The DOL tipped employees fact sheet states, “Regardless of whether an employer takes a tip credit, the FLSA prohibits employers from keeping any portion of employees’ tips for any purpose, whether directly or through a tip pool.” That covers managers, too, and state rules may be stricter.
Send hours, wages, and tips to payroll
If your POS time clock only tracks hours, payroll is still a separate job. 7shifts carries hours, wages, and tips to payroll, which is what franchise payroll software has to do at every store.
Tip calculation settings decide which tips are included and how they’re calculated. They also set how tips appear in reports and payroll exports. You can run restaurant payroll with tips in 7shifts Payroll or export to another provider.
Wage Sync is a setting that copies each employee’s hourly rate from TouchBistro into 7shifts. It covers hourly roles only. You’ll need Wage-Based Roles and mapped Roles and Staff Types first.
Lee describes the full picture. “With payroll integrations, we can create a beautiful trifecta of a fully operational restaurant on a single tech stack: our point of sale, 7shifts managing HR information, and then pushing it over to payroll, whether that’s our own 7shifts Payroll or other partners.”
Before you close a pay period, check the Warnings tab. It flags missing punches, unmapped employees, and role mismatches before they reach payroll.
Mistakes cost real money. In fiscal year 2025, DOL food service wage data shows about $42.7 million in back wages for roughly 30,000 food service employees.
Standardize every juice bar in your franchise
Use your first unit as the template for every store after it. That’s how 7shifts software for franchise groups helps a juice bar franchise run the same way everywhere.
Keep these settings identical at every store:
- Staff Type names: Use the same names in TouchBistro at every unit.
- Role names: Match each one exactly to the 7shifts Integration Name on its Staff Type.
- Grace period: Pick one clock-in window for the whole franchise.
- Tip pool rules: Split tips the same way at every store.
Employee Sync creates 7shifts profiles automatically after a new hire clocks in and out on TouchBistro once. It syncs first and last name only, so add email and Role by hand.
Archiving someone in TouchBistro deactivates their 7shifts account. That’s handy when summer staff head back to school.
Good HR software for franchises also gives owners one view of every unit. “7shifts has the ability for an enterprise or corporation to see all of their labor costs in one single view,” says Lee.
She adds, “Franchise owners don’t want to worry too much once everything is set up. They can go into 7shifts and see the labor forecast and the sales forecast to identify the best schedule to create.”
Juice bar leaders notice. “I have used so many scheduling methods over the past 10 years, and by far 7shifts has been the best,” says Zachary Eddy, district manager at Jamba-Auntie Anne’s.
Setup checklist for TouchBistro juice bars
Follow these steps in order at each unit. Skipping ahead is the fastest way to end up with unmapped staff.
| Step | Task | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Match time zones and workday hours (5 a.m. to 5 a.m.) | Both |
| 2 | Connect the location and choose its 7shifts Location ID | TouchBistro Cloud |
| 3 | Match each Punch ID to the TouchBistro passcode | Both |
| 4 | Set the 7shifts Integration Name on each Staff Type | TouchBistro |
| 5 | Have each employee clock in and out once | TouchBistro POS |
| 6 | Map employees | 7shifts |
| 7 | Turn on Actual Labor | 7shifts |
| 8 | Turn on Employee Sync | 7shifts |
| 9 | Turn on Wage-Based Roles, then Wage Sync | 7shifts |
| 10 | Turn on Schedule Enforcement, then republish the schedule | Both |
| 11 | Configure tip settings after the first sync | 7shifts |
| 12 | Review the Warnings tab before payroll | 7shifts |
Lee’s rule of thumb ties it together. “We always say 7shifts should be your source of truth for all your employee information, whether it’s salaried or from the point of sale, and the employees from your point of sale need to be correctly mapped.”
Keep these limits in mind:
- Breaks don’t sync: Paid and unpaid breaks don’t come over from TouchBistro.
- Plans vary: Some features may need a plan upgrade.
- Unscheduled punches arrive without a Role: Review them before you run payroll.
Frequently asked questions
Here are quick answers to common TouchBistro integration questions.
Does 7shifts integrate with TouchBistro?
Yes. 7shifts connects directly to TouchBistro Cloud, and each location connects separately from the App Marketplace.
What data syncs from TouchBistro to 7shifts?
Net sales, punches, labor costs, tips, first and last names, and hourly wages sync. Breaks, email addresses, Role assignments, and salaried wages don’t.
Can 7shifts stop early clock-ins on TouchBistro?
Yes. With schedule enforcement on in both tools, staff can’t clock in before their grace period starts, and unscheduled staff need a manager override.
Which TouchBistro tips can I pool?
You can pool credit card tips, auto-gratuity, cash tips, and declared tips. Split them by hours worked, points, or percentages.
How do I connect more than one location?
Repeat the connection in TouchBistro Cloud for each unit, starting at the 7shifts Location ID step. Each location needs its own Location ID.
How long until sales forecasts appear?
Historical sales can take several hours to import. First projections appear after about one to two weeks of data.
Does Wage Sync work for salaried staff?
No. Wage Sync imports wages for hourly roles only, so salaried wages need separate setup.
Run every juice bar on the same playbook
Connect TouchBistro once per unit and map every employee carefully. Then sales, clock-ins, tips, and payroll all work from the same data.
That’s why 7shifts is the best HR software for juice and smoothie franchises using TouchBistro. As Lee says, “A restaurant shouldn’t have to worry about what’s happening behind the scenes. They should only focus on what’s going to happen next week or tomorrow.”
