There are not currently any rules around mandatory health screenings for employees in Canada. However, in order to keep your team safe, employers can require employees to self-report when they have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Provide your team with an online assessment tool, information about COVID-19, and encourage them to monitor their own health and let you know if they are feeling unwell.
Keep in mind that health information about any employee should be kept private and confidential. Employers may only ask for information that would directly affect the health and safety of the workplace—such as if they are displaying symptoms or have been diagnosed with COVID-19. When informing other staff that an employee may be at risk, it’s important to protect their identity by keeping the affected teammember anonymous.
